Jun 21, 2010 - San Diego
This event was inspired by the ongoing fraud throughout our business environment. With each fraud cycle, there's talk, new laws written, and much discussion on how "it will never happen again".
But the key inspiration was the willingness of our keynote speaker to participate this year. Aaron Beam is the former founding CFO of Healthsouth, which culminated in a high profile fraud case in 2003. He will speak from his personal experiences and the "slippery slope" that we all try to avoid in our everyday work. Hearing his presentation is worth the price of admission alone.
Why attend? The session content is new and refreshing and not a repeat of what you've heard before. The material is timely, interesting and on-point. Your "take-away" is additional new knowledge and a better understanding of how pervasive fraud is and what you can expect in your daily work along with learning the steps for you to take if you suspect or discover fraud.
The fact is that we are faced with circumstances everyday and have to make decisions, sometimes under pressure and sometimes without much detailed knowledge. All decisions have consequences. We'll take a closer look at those consequences.
Fraud discovered in the accounting leading up to and the preparation of tax returns. Sometimes the client, sometimes the business activities they are involved with (investments, suspicious payees). At first glance, this topic looks like it's for CPAs but it for all accountants as you see many transactions every day that affect your company's tax return (many companies don't have external financial statements.)
