About Jim Colville

Jim has over 30 years experience as a CPA offering traditional CPA services. A key segment of his practice is working with both simple and complex data sets. He understands data flow and how to make the most of it using both high-end software and off-the-shelf, end-user software. He has been working with data warehousing and business intelligence long before the terms became common language.

Jim has developed a wide variety of powerful Excel-based financial statement and tax programs and has been doing so since the first version of Lotus 1-2-3. He believes that programs such as Excel, when used properly, can be extremely valuable tools and huge time savers.

His design philosophy is "zero time": once the data is entered, the reports are "done".

Who is AEI?

Accounting Education Institute (AEI) was originally formed by Jim Colville, CPA to provide accounting and finance education to the business community. The mission quickly changed by adding the academic and the expanded business community. When done, AEI will be a partnership of efforts of AEI, the local universities, CPA firms and company sponsors and others with a common goal. This will be accomplished by involving the partners in several different ways:

Universities - Students will help with the planning and organization of the events with the objectives of getting them involved directly with businesses in the community, understanding real world topics and issues, and for AEI to provide  support to the universities and students by contributing event profits to the scholarship funds and/or directly to qualifying students.

CPA firms and companies - They will help by providing us with relevant topics and issues as the basis for events or the individual topics in an event. Part of our mission is to use professionals as speakers that are active in their profession. Many of these will come from these entities. Financial support may be provided by some of these companies.

Jim Colville's experiences as a CPA make him uniquely qualified to form an education company. He has extensive experience in auditing, financial statements, business income tax, individual income tax, fraud, forensic accounting in addition to his CPA firm providing seminars to the professionals in the San Diego business community.
